11/06/2018: “PAGLILINGKOD AT PAGDIRIWANG” STARTS KALAYAAN 2018 WEEKLONG CELEBRATION IN WASHINGTON

Ambassador Jose Manuel G. Romualdez together with the Philippine Embassy officers and staff holds flag raising ceremony at the Chancery Annex grounds to mark the opening of consular services on Sunday, 10 June 2018.

WASHINGTON, D.C. –The Philippine Embassy marked the start of the weeklong celebration of the 120thAnniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with consular services and free seminars under the theme, “Paglilingkod at Pagdiriwang sa Araw ng Kalayaan 2018” on Sunday, 10 June 2018 at the Chancery Annex Building.

Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel G. Romualdez led the flag-raising ceremony in the morning prior to the commencement of the day’s program.

Throughout the day, consular services such as passport, civil registration, and legalization of documents were extended. Overseas voter registration, as well as transactions with the Philippine Social Security System (SSS) and Pag-IBIG Fund were likewise accepted.

In the afternoon, the following free seminars were conducted:

  • Labor Migration System: The Philippine Experience by Atty. Angela Librado-Trinidad, Philippine Labor Attaché to the United States and head of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office;
  • OWWA Services and Programs by Welfare Officer Josephine Tobia;
  • Pag-IBIG Fund Programs and Benefits by Mr. Michael Azucena, Pag-IBIG Representative-New York;
  • SSS Programs by Ms. Marites Marin, SSS Foreign Representative-San Francisco; and
  • Franchising Opportunities in the Philippines by Commercial Counselor Raymond Batac, head of the Philippine Trade and Investment Center-Washington DC.

“We are pleased to celebrate our Independence Day with our kababayansin a manner that would truly be of benefit to them. Effective public service is one of the blessings of independence and democracy,” said Ambassador Romualdez. ###
